Have you ever looked at your landscape and wondered, "When is a good time to aerate my lawn?" "Should I cut back my perennials now?" Like many of us, me included, I struggled to know the right time to do my yard maintenance. Let's face it, it's not like cutting the grass when it gets long! Some things can do irreparable damage to our plants and turf and when should we perform these landscape tasks?
Here is a general timetable of when and what to do throughout the year. Many time people ask me when should I cut my ornamental grasses back? Can I trim my Liriope back with a mower or do I have to do it by hand? These are excellent questions that I will follow up on in a future post. For now, I will provide general guidelines for your yard that will help keep it in top shape and looking great for years to come!
I hope this chart is helpful and if you have a suggestion for a future post please let me know! Stay tuned also for some recommended plant lists for some of the more difficult situations!
